WHAT MAKEUP TAUGHT ME ABOUT FILIPINA BEAUTY

by Beautifilipina Staff, 01 Mar 2023

Filipina beauty is unique, and it took me years to understand and embrace it. Growing up in a Filipino household, I was exposed to various beauty rituals that had been passed down through generations. My early understanding of Filipina beauty was shaped by my family's traditions, but it was also influenced by Western beauty standards.

As a teenager, I struggled with my appearance and used makeup to cover up my flaws. I wanted to look like the models I saw in magazines and on TV, with their slim noses and high cheekbones. I thought that if I could just change my features, I would be accepted and admired by others.

My parents in the Philippines taught me that beauty comes from within, but it wasn't until I started wearing makeup that I realized the truth in their words. I began to experiment with different products and techniques, learning how to contour my face and enhance my features. Through trial and error, I discovered what worked for me and what didn't.

One of the biggest lessons makeup taught me was that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to beauty. What looks good on one person may not work for another. This is especially true for Filipina beauty, which is diverse and multifaceted. Our skin tones range from fair to dark, and our features can vary widely. What makes us beautiful is not our adherence to Western beauty standards, but our unique blend of cultural influences and personal style.

Another lesson I learned was that confidence is key. Makeup can enhance our natural beauty, but it can't replace it. True beauty comes from within, and it radiates outward. When we feel good about ourselves, it shows in our appearance and the way we carry ourselves. Filipina beauty is all about embracing who we are, flaws and all, and letting our inner beauty shine through.

Despite my early struggles with makeup and beauty, I eventually came to appreciate and love my Filipina heritage. I learned to celebrate my nose, which is a distinctive feature that sets me apart from others. I also learned to appreciate the different shades of brown in my skin and the way they change with the seasons.

Makeup taught me that beauty is not something to be defined by others, but rather something to be embraced and celebrated. As a Filipina, my beauty is unique and special, and I wouldn't want it any other way.

In conclusion, Filipina beauty is diverse, complex, and beautiful. It took me years to understand and appreciate it, but I'm grateful for the journey. Makeup played a significant role in my personal growth and taught me valuable lessons about beauty, confidence, and self-love. I hope that my story will inspire other Filipinas to embrace their beauty and celebrate their heritage.
