I am honored to share the story of another amazing Filipina beauty queen - Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.
Pia was born in Stuttgart, Germany to a Filipino mother and a German father. She grew up in the Philippines and began her career in entertainment at the age of 11. Pia appeared in various TV shows and movies, and also worked as a model before entering the world of pageantry.
In 2013, Pia joined Binibining Pilipinas (Miss Philippines) and placed as first runner-up. She tried again the following year and was crowned Binibining Pilipinas Universe 2015, which gave her the opportunity to represent the Philippines in the Miss Universe pageant.
In the Miss Universe 2015 pageant, Pia wowed the judges and audience with her grace, intelligence, and stunning looks. She made it to the Top 5, where she was asked a question about her thoughts on the US military presence in the Philippines. Pia gave a thoughtful and diplomatic response, earning her praise from viewers worldwide.
But the most memorable moment of the night came when host Steve Harvey mistakenly announced Miss Colombia as the winner instead of Pia. As the crown was taken away from Miss Colombia and given to her, Pia remained composed and gracious. She even used the moment to advocate for unity and understanding among different cultures.
During her reign as Miss Universe, Pia used her platform to raise awareness for various causes, including HIV/AIDS prevention and mental health. She also made history by becoming the third Filipina to win the Miss Universe title.
Pia continues to inspire and empower women around the world, and she remains an icon in the Philippines. Her story shows that with hard work, perseverance, and grace under pressure, anything is possible.
